Microbial characterization of biofilms developing on virgin microplastics in aquatic environments

Microplastics are widespread environmental contaminants that can act as vectors for harmful chemicals, pathogens, and antibiotic resistance, posing risks to ecological and human health. This study assessed the possible microbial hazards associated with microplastics in various aquatic environments, focusing on biofilm development and its microbial composition, using microbiome sequencing.
