In this project, we aim to employ in-situ/operando synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) and pair distribution function (PDF) techniques to investigate structural evolution in various oxide cathodes during Mg2⁺ intercalation/deintercalation. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding Mg2⁺ intercalation sites and pathways, which is crucial for elucidating the underlying mechanisms of intercalation transition-metal oxides cathode materials in Mg-ion batteries. These insights will, in turn, guide the rational design of next-generation cathode materials with higher efficiency and potential for practical RMBs applications.
