Data and code from: Error signals in the parvocellular division of the red nucleus, not the magnocellular division, drive adaptation in reaching
收藏资源简介:
We examined the distinctive roles of the parvocellular (RNp) and magnocellular (RNm) divisions of the red nucleus in motor control and learning. RNp and RNm neurons encoded information on motor error (ME) during the ongoing movement and/or visually apparent error (AE) after the movement ended. Microstimulation of RNp, but not of RNm, induced a gradual increase in error in the direction opposite to the preferred direction of AE and ME. Interestingly, RNm neurons, in particular, encoded information on AE from the preceding reaching movement before the next movement took place. These results indicate that the RNp provides visual and ME signals that drive trial-by-trial adaptation through modifications of the cerebellum via the inferior olivary nucleus. Meanwhile, the RNm may participate in online motor corrections based on ME signals or in pre-movement adjustments based on the previous AE, processes that are distinct from those of RNp. , , # Data and code from: Error signals in the parvocellular division of the red nucleus, not the magnocellular division, drive adaptation in reaching Dataset DOI: [10.5061/dryad.x95x69pwb](10.5061/dryad.x95x69pwb) ## Description of the data and file structure Spikes were recorded from individual neurons in the red nucleus of the monkey while they performed reaching toward a target in front. calc_info.m calculates information on apparent error (AE), motor error (ME), and Target position (Target) encoded by a single neuron. Typical data from an RNp neuron (OR016) are provided as three txt files (OR016_AE_spike.txt, OR016_ME_spike.txt, OR016_Target_spike.txt). Code for calculating mutual information encoded by neural activity is provided with a typical data set presented in Figure 4 of the manuscript. These text files are formatted as follows: Each row represents data for each trial, and each column represents a parameter. * 1st and 2nd columns: the horizontal and vertical error posit..., ,
