Targeted chromosomal Escherichia coli: dnaB exterior surface residues regulate DNA helicase behavior to maintain genomic stability and organismal fitness

Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was used to identify mutations occurring in SEW-deficient mutants of the bacterial replicative helicase DnaB. We find that single nucleotide polymorphisms appear to occur randomly across the genome with a higher frequency of transition mutations, consistent with a general mutator phenotype.
