Brazil: murders of activists and environmentalists 2013-2022

In 2022, at least 34 land activists or environmentalists were murdered in Brazil. In 2017, the homicide of 57 citizens fighting in land conflicts or for environmental causes had been documented, which made it the deadliest year for Brazil based on this type of politically motivated murder since 2013.
