资源简介:
Background: Oral and maxillofacial malignancies constitute a significant global health burden due to their aggressive biological behavior and impact on morbidity and mortality.Aim: To evaluate the frequency, distribution, and clinicodemographic characteristics of oral and maxillofacial malignant tumors diagnosed at Al- Amal National Hospital during 2024–2025.Materials and Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted using data obtained from the Cancer Registration Unit. A total of 326 confirmed malignant cases were included. Variables analyzed included age, gender, anatomical site (diagnostic code), and treatment modalities. Descriptive statistics were applied using frequencies and percentages. Results: Oral and maxillofacial malignancies represented 3.2% of total hospital attendees. A male predominance was observed (58.6%). The majority of cases occurred in patients aged 41–60 years (36.5%) and 61–89 years (35.6%). Lymphoma (35.9%) was the most frequent malignancy, followed by nasopharyngeal tumors (21.2%) and lip malignancies (11.7%). Chemotherapy was the most commonly administered treatment modality (80.4%).Conclusion: The study demonstrates a clear age-related trend, male predominance, and clustering of malignancies within specific anatomical sites. These findings provide important institutional baseline data for future epidemiological research in Iraq.
