Novel Electrochemical Probes for Rapid Detection of β-Lactamase-Mediated Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest challenges facing modern medicine, threatening our ability to treat common infections. This research focuses on creating smart chemical tools that can rapidly detect bacteria resistant to last-line antibiotics called carbapenems. These tiny molecules act like sensors, producing an electrochemical signal when they encounter resistant bacteria, ultimately allowing quick and affordable testing outside the laboratory. By improving their stability and performance, this work brings us closer to portable diagnostic devices that can guide better antibiotic use and help slow the spread of resistant infections.
