Resequencing of Teleopsis dalmanni sex ratio X chromosome

Meiotic drive occurs when a gene or chromosome violates the law of segregation, resulting in >50% representation in the next generation. If on an X or Y chromosome, this alters the sex ratio of offspring of male carriers. Such selfish genetic elements can radically alter processes from chromosome function and evolution to population demographics. Here, we resequenced a sex ratio chromosome from stalk-eyed flies (Teleopsis dalmanni), a species with a well-characterized sex ratio X chromosome in order to understand the causes and impacts of drive.
