VPRS 15661 Register of Applications, Ballarat, Purchase of Land Sections 113, 146 and 192 Land Act 1901 (Occupation Branch)

This series registers applications made to purchase land which had previously been occupied under license. A number of entries have a notation indicating the details were transferred from an earlier register. Details given are the application number and the number of the Section of the Land Act 1901 under which the application was made, the name and address of the applicant, the location and extent of the land, the dates related to the issue of the Crown grant and the file markings. These markings indicate, as the first entry, the file number for the previous file for the holding of the land under license to occupy.Section 113 of the Land Act 1901 allowed the sale of detached portions of Crown lands and the sale of sites for churches. Under Section 146, persons who had occupied land under a Section 145 license for five years and had fulfilled the conditions of the licence and made improvements could apply to purchase the land with license fees paid defraying the purchase price. Section 192 allowed holders of forest land for five years who had made improvements to apply to purchase the land.
