At the end of the fiscal year 2024, the yield of jute and mesta produced in India was estimated to be over 2,749 kilograms per hectare. This was an increase from the previous fiscal year. The south Asian country is the largest producer of this natural fiber, and the cultivation of jute is primarily in the Ganges delta. Commercial crop Jute cultivation is mainly concentrated in the eastern and north-eastern states of India, while mesta cultivation is spread across the country. During 2017, the economic contribution of the jute fiber was nearly six percent. As an important cash crop, the cultivation of raw jute crops provides fiber for industrial use, and the jute stick is used as fuel and building material by the farming community. Jute trade Jute is in great demand after cotton due to its versatile nature. Amid the global demand for eco-friendly products, jute stands as a fabric of the future. Even though the country is the leading producer of the fiber, it also imports raw jute to produce diversified products, from its neighboring countries. However, in the fiscal year 2018, the south Asian nation exported jute valued at over 21 billion Indian rupees.
