WK4. Techniques & data: field sample training with animals; Sweep Net Dataset

Data was collected at York University's Keele Campus in mowed and unmowed grasslands. The data that was collected was that on different species of insects, and their abundances, caught using a sweepnet along a 30m transect. This was done 5 times in unmowed grasslands and 3 in mowed grasslands. Each time the transect was placed 5 steps away (in the unmowed grasslands) and 2 steps away (in the mowed grasslands) from where the previous one was. While walking the distance of the transect the sweepnet was sweeped for approximately 4-5 minutes each time. At the end, the insects caught in the sweepnet were recorded and then let go. The data recorded included the species and abundance. This exact method was repeated for each of the 8 replicates.
