Field data collected across the Isthmus of Panama between May and August 2014 (rainy season). Herbivory is defined as the leaf area removed by insect herbivores. Herbivory was assessed on 3-5 leaves per individual plant and 3-18 saplings per plant species per field site. Leaves were undamaged at the beginning of the observation and measurements were taken after ~50 days exposure in the field.
