We report that ITLN1 production is induced by ER stress in IBD, binds to A. muciniphila, regulates mucus thickness, promoting barrier breach and inflammation. RNAseq analysis indicated transcriptional regulation of Itln1 by Xbp1. Comparison of gene expression in Paneth cells of XBP1-deleted (Xbp1ΔIEC) inestinal epithelia of germ-free C57BL/6 mice versus Paneth cells in intestinal epithelia of wild-type germ-free controls.
