Obeticholic acid and ferrostatin-1 synergize to ameliorate nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in AMLN diet-fed ob/ob mice

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are common chronic liver diseases with limited treatment options. Our study investigated in parallel how obeticholic acid (OCA) and ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), alone or in combination, affect liver histology, lipid accumulation, and hepatic Kupffer cell and stellate cell activation as well as the effects of these drugs on the intestinal microbiota and liver lipidomics in an amylin liver NASH (AMLN) mouse model.
