This dataset contains 3T fMRI data from 40 adult participants (20 expert chess players and 20 novices) who performed an in-scanner 1-back preference judgment task using 40 chessboard stimuli (20 checkmate and 20 non-checkmate positions). The dataset includes the stimulus materials, behavioral data collected during scanning, raw and preprocessed fMRI data (2 mm isotropic resolution, whole-brain coverage), and all neuroimaging analysis outputs, including fMRIPrep preprocessing, SPM first-level GLMs, and subject-level representational similarity analysis (RSA) and searchlight maps. In addition, eye-tracking data (gaze coordinates recorded during chessboard viewing) are provided.
