The cochineal insect Dactylopius coccus is the source of the carminic acid dye used worldwide. The microbiome of D. coccus has been poorly studied. Using a metagenomic approach, the Wolbachia strain wDacB, belonging to supergroup B, was identified among the microbiota inhabiting D. coccus in Mexico. The genome sequence of wDacB was sequenced and analyzed.
