Antibiotic resistance (AR) has already become a public concern that has major impacts on human health. The AR profile in agricultural related environment, especially the gut microbiota of farm animals, is possibly a critical route for AR dissemination along the food chain. AR genes and antibiotic resistant (ART) bacterial have been detected in the gut microbiome of farm animals even without direct exposure to antibiotic. Previous study has revealed that the acquisition of ART bacteria and AR genes impacts the shift of microbial composition and resistome in the gut microbiota. Therefore microbial interference by AR-free probiotic may achieve double goals, AR elimination in the gut microbiota and health promotion. The object of this project is to develop new probiotic strains that have AR elimination functions.
