KHAYRINISO MAJIDKHONOVA AND THE FORMATION OF WOMEN'S MEDICAL EDUCATION IN UZBEKISTAN: JADIDISM, GENDER, AND NATIONAL MODERNIZATION

This article presents a comprehensive historical analysis of the formation of women’s medical education in Uzbekistan through the example of the life and professional career of Khayriniso Majidkhonova, examined within the framework of the Jadid reform movement, gender relations, and the concept of national modernization. The study explores the reformist ideas of Jadid intellectuals concerning women’s education and elucidates their role in the strategy for training national medical professionals. It also evaluates Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s medical education obtained abroad and her contribution to the development of Uzbekistan’s healthcare system from the perspective of intellectual transfer. The article analyses women’s participation in medical education as one of the key factors in promoting national development, social modernization, and gender equality. Employing historical-comparative, historical-systemic, and biographical methods, the research compares and synthesizes both domestic and international scholarly sources. On this basis, it demonstrates that Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s professional legacy represents not merely the history of an individual, but one of the significant stages in the formation of modern women’s medical education in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, her activities are assessed as a practical outcome of Jadid reformist ideas and as a mechanism for strengthening the nation’s intellectual capacity. The findings enrich existing scholarship in the fields of the history of medicine in Uzbekistan, gender history, and Jadid studies through the application of new sources and methodological approaches. The article contributes to a reassessment of Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s scholarly and professional legacy within the broader context of national modernization processes.
