VPRS 16315 Roll of Attorneys, County Court, Melbourne

Under the provisions of the County Court Act 1852 (section LXVIII), any attorney of the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria who wished to apply for admission to practice in any County Court was required to apply in writing to the judge of the court for leave to do so. If the Judge agreed to admit the attorney to practice in the County Court, the attorney was required to sign in the book kept for that purpose with his full name, the date of his admission to practice in the said court, his place of residence, his office of business, any action to be brought in the court, in which the attorney was to act on behalf of any plaintiff or defendant, etc.The Roll of Attorneys contains the names of the attorneys admitted to practice in the Court of Request, County of Bourke, 1847 to 1851 and subsequently in the Melbourne County Court.The Roll records the attorney's full name, date of admission in England or elsewhere, date of admission to the Supreme Court, date of admission to the County Court, place of business, specimen signature required by the 1860's.
