Our study investigates the safety of PEG/CuS-NPs, a type of copper sulfide nanoparticles, in a rat model, focusing on their impact on gut microbiota. These nanoparticles, with their potential in various applications from medicine to imaging, are coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to enhance their properties. Using chemical precipitation, we synthesized PEG/CuS-NPs and meticulously characterized them. In a 14-day study, we administered low and high doses of PEG/CuS-NPs to Sprague Dawley rats and observed biochemical, hematological, and histological changes along with change in gut Microbiota. Our findings suggest significant alterations in biological markers and liver pathology, emphasizing the need for caution in nanoparticle use to maintain gut microbiota balance.
