Temporal patterns of gut microbiota in lemurs (Eulemur rubriventer) living in intact and disturbed habitats

Raw 16S rRNA sequencing reads collected from 159 desiccated fecal samples from 13 individual red-bellied lemurs in two ecologically distinct populations in Madagascar from Aug - Dec 2004. The goals of this study were to test if lemurs in a disturbed habitat showed the same temporal patterns as lemurs in an intact habitat. To validate the usage of desiccated samples, we also performed a pilot analysis on 16 desiccated lemur fecal samples and two positive control lemur fecal samples preserved in ethanol. This study opens the door for other study systems to utilize historic biological sample data sets to answer novel temporal microbiome questions in an ecological context.
