Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in companion animals in the UK remain rare, and surveillance of CPE in veterinary diagnostics is limited. This study undertook a point prevalence survey of carbapenem resistance in Gram-negative organisms in companion animals from 34 veterinary practices across the UK, and generated a complete genome assembly for the single CPE identified, an NDM-5-harbouring E. coli.
