In this study, we compare the expression profile of virulence factors in ten different P.gingivalis strains at different time points. Transcripts from the virulence factors fimA locus and the minor fimbre mfa1 locus and gingipains was analysed. We culture the strains in broth containing hemin, vitamin K and human blood., to mimic how the bacteria could act in blood vessels. Bleeding is of the main symptoms in periodontic inflammation where P.gingivalis is a key pathogen.
