We investigated the potential of using markers of gene expression to predict age in tsetse flies, which are the vectors of deadly and economically damaging African trypanosomiases. RNA was extracted from individual fly heads from 22 male and 28 female laboratory-reared Glossina morsitans flies ranging in age from 2 to 62 days. RNAseq was performed using strand-specific libraries and 150bp paired-end sequencing on an Illumina HiSeq 4000 sequencer.
