Contaminants and Microplastics in Fish from the Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut

Fish are an important source of nutrition and have social and cultural significance for the Inuit people of the Kitikmeot region. Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, and Kugluktuk Huners and Trappers Organizations are concerned about contaminants in fish from lakes near their communities commonly used for fish harvesting and in lake trout in particular. This project focuses on sampling and analyzing fish from water bodies that are common community fishing sites in these three communities, with additional limited analysis on fish from Gjoa Haven in order to develop a more complete understanding of the contaminants of interest to Kitikmeot communities and for which no data are available.
