Whole genome resequencing of Megachile rotundata

Social insects have exceptionally high rates of crossing over . We gain insight into the evolutionary causes of these extreme recombination rates by comparing recombination rate variation across the genome of a social and solitary bee. We compare the genomic recombination landscape in the honey bee, Apis mellifera, to the solitary alfalfa leafcutter bee, Megachile rotundata, using patterns of linkage disequilibrium observed in population-scale whole genome sequencing data in both species.
