This thesis explores the design and creation of smart polymer materials that respond to changes in their environment. Inspired by natural color-changing compounds called flavyliums, found in flowers and fruits, the research connects flavylium structures to synthetic polymers, allowing the materials to respond to light, pH, and temperature. By developing scalable methods to make these flavylium-containing polymers, the work bridges fundamental polymer chemistry with dynamic molecular behavior. The resulting materials offer a new platform for multifunctional, bio-inspired technologies.
