Transposable element's influence on gene transcripts in Drosophila melanogaster and Drosophila simulans natural strains

All genomes contain parasitic DNA sequences called transposable elements (TEs). TEs are the target of silencing epigenetic mechanisms, which may spread to neighboring sequences. In this study, we quantify the influence of TE insertions on transcriptomes and epigenomes using carcasse (whole body without ovaires) samples from wild-type strains of Drosophila melanogaster and Drosophila simulans.
