The Tropical Cyclone Motion (TCM-90) Research Initiative, sponsored by
the Office of Naval Research (ONR), was a project dedicated to
understanding tropical cyclone motion and improving forecast
accuracy. The TCM-90 analyses were produced using the TCM-90
observations with a four-dimensional (4D) data assimilation system at
the National Meteorological Center (NMC). The horizontal resolution is
50 km. The lowest level is 1000 mb and the highest level is 100 mb
with analyses at every 50 mb in between. Special surface analyses
include surface pressure, latent and sensible heat fluxes and
sea-surface temperatures.
