A novel sulphate-reducing bacterium, strain SYK, was isolated from a polyxenic culture of an anaerobic protist obtained from a sulphidogenic sediment of the saline Lake Hiruga in Fukui, Japan. The strain is proposed as the type strain of a new species based on its genomic and phenotypic properties.
