We performed WGS on a collection of Enterobacter spp. isolated between May 2016 and December 2017 in an NICU of a tertiary care hospital in Nepal, and retrospectively identified a fatal outbreak of neonatal sepsis caused by carbapenem-nonsusceptible and colistin-resistant Enterobacter kobei. Our study provided a highly resolved genomic evidence of infection outbreak due to E. kobei and underscored the need to implement stringent infection control preventive measures to break the transmission chain so as to curb further outbreak events. Also, for the first time, we report the detection of novel mobile colistin resistance genes mcr-9 and mcr-10 in neonatal sepsis causing E.asburiae and E.kobei respectively.
