Enhanced exome sequencing was performed on tumor and normal samples from a single patient who presented with a concurrent nonseminomatous germ cell tumor and acute megakaryoblastic leukemia, to define the clonal relationship between the two cancers. Both tumor samples were found to have somatic mutations in PTEN and TP53 present at 100% variant allele frequency, suggesting a common founding clone.
