The Microbiome of Pediatric Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis

Pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a diverse and poorly understood disease that can lead to poor quality of life and significant patient exposure to antibiotic therapy. Colonization or chronic infection of adenoid tissue has been linked to pediatric CRS and adenoidectomy is recommended to reduce bacterial load.The goal of this study was to identify and define the microbiota of pediatric patientsundergoing adenoidectomy for CRS and to compare it with the otherwise healthy control group of patients undergoing adenoidectomy for nasal obstruction.
