Inter-neural co-regulation before and after an interactive perturbation in mother-infant dyads

This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “Inter-neural co-regulation before and after an interactive perturbation in mother-infant dyads”. This study is part of the “2-Brain Regulation for Improved Neuroprotection during Early Development (2-BRAINED)” research project. In this paper, we explore variations in inter-neural synchrony (INS) before and after an experimentally-induced interactive perturbation and investigate the relationship between INS and behavioral coupling Procedures EEG data collected on 66 mother-infant dyads (8-10 months) participated in the well-validated Face-to-Face Still-Face (FFSF) procedure combined with a dual-EEG recordings. Infants and maternal behaviors were microanalytically coded for behavioural coupling instances (i.e., % time of positive emotional match and of mutual gaze). Phase locking values (PLV) over frontal and central regions in the theta (3-7 Hz) and alpha (6-12 Hz) bands were computed from the dual-EEG recordings. Analytical plan Differences in PLV values before and after perturbation were assessed via repeated measures ANOVA and associations between PLV values and behavioural coupling were inspected in the two episodes via Peason’s correlation tests. Findings in brief A significant increase in alpha coupling emerged before and after perturbation. Conversely, a reduction in theta coupling was highlighted in the subgroup of female infants. Behavioral and EEG-based dyadic co-regulation in the theta band was evident only prior to the perturbation.
