Oropharyngeal dysfunction impairs essential behaviors such as suckling, swallowing, and speech, and can lead to life-threatening complications. However, the mechanism by which neural networks coordinate the organization of neuromuscular architecture to support integrated oropharyngeal functions remains unclear. We employed soft palatal musculature as a model to investigate how sensory nerves regulate neuromuscular architecture and function.
