Predaceous mosquito larvae have potential as biocontrol agents, but little is known about their basic biology. In this project, we were interested in characterizing gut bacterial diversity in larvae of a predaceous mosquito species we rear in the lab. We were also interested in comparing bacterial diversity in predaceous mosquitoes to that of their prey, which in this case were larvae of a detritivorous mosquito species reared in the same facility.
