Persea americana nectar microbiome

We examined the abundance of bacteria and fungi from avocado nectar and screened the culturable fraction for their antagonistic activity against the avocado pathogens Phytophthora cinnamomi and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and against the most devastating honey bee pathogens Ascosphaera apis and Paenibacillus larvae; as well as their ability to promote plant development and defense in Arabidopsis. Both DNA metabarcoding sequencing and microbial isolation indicated that Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Filobasidium and Aureobasidium are among the most abundant genera.
