Next generation sequencing based gut microbiome analysis in Japanese quail administrated with microplastics

Five of Japanese quails were subjected to powdered microplastic administration (test), while the remaining five birds were kept in a microplastic-free (control) to investigate the impact of microplastic administration on microbiota in birds. After the experiments, all ten quails were euthanized and dissected to measure the weight of each organ and collect samples. NGS analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene were conducted using DNAs extracted from pellets of gut fluid samples to investigate gut microbe diversity.
