资源简介:
A Frequency-Dependent & Per-Port (FDPP) channel termination & renormalization method is presented asa more accurate substitute for the traditional method whichuses frequency-independent, uniform impedance as the serialization/deserialization (SerDes) transmit (TX)/receive (RX)termination impedances. Although the traditional method isemployed in practically all the existing high-speed interfacestandards, the assumption of the constant, uniform terminationimpedance at TX and RX is not exact and will lead to inaccuracy. The new method characterizes the mismatch conditions at the TXand the RX terminations on a per frequency point and per portbasis, and therefore produces more accurate results during thechannel performance assessment. The mathematic computationprocedure of the FDPP technique is introduced. A proposal ofexpanding the [Reference] section in the current Touchstone 2.0format into a matrix so as to incorporate the frequency-dependentimpedance values is described. Three channels representingmid/high/extremely high losses are renormalized with the FDPPapproach and the eye-diagrams obtained and compared to thatgenerated using the traditional method, along with the results ofchannel operational metrics (COM). The comparison shows thatthe FDPP method produces more realistic and accurate resultsthan the traditional method.
