We performed 10x Genomics scRNA-seq (enhanced by the custom target enrichment of CALHM1 and CALHM3) on laryngeal epithelia of guinea pigs to study rare sensory epithelial cells that synapse with afferent nerves. Such epithelial cells include subsets of POU2F3+ chemosensory cells (PCCs) in various organs. This study represents the first transcriptome analysis of the laryngeal epithelium of guinea pigs and provide new insights into airway protective chemoreflexes.
