Tropospheric satellite winds at all heights below the tropopause in the polar regions (latitudes higher than 45º), derived from the infrared channel of the Metop AVHRR instrument.
This is the first release of polar atmospheric wind vectors that have been reprocessed. They are archived in the EUMETSAT Data Centre. This uses the version 2.4 of the EUMETSAT operational algorithm. The data record includes products generated with IR images taken from the AVHRR/3 imager on-board the Metop-A polar satellite. The dataset covers the period March 2007 until December 2014.
The coverage boundaries are polar caps polar wards of 45 degrees. The dataset is available in two formats: the EUMETSAT generic EPS format and the BUFR format.
Note that this polar AMV dataset has also been produced using another algorithm developed by CIMSS (see : Related Products tab).
