Introductory titles and credits only (almost 2 minutes) for a medical film entitled “The thinnest slice” written and produced Daniel H. Chapman, directed by George Pratt, at the University of Southern California, 1949. “Titles - The thinnest slice – sound stills – ‘Beer is the name’” – container. “Titles – The thinnest slice – head – R909005B – USC P114 – Neg” – on leader. 24 frames per second. 66 feet. “Tissue is sliced to 1/500,000th of an inch on a microtome by Dr. Daniel Pease in a technique which he and Dr. Richard Baker developed in the USC laboratories. The tissue is put through eleven solutions before mounting. Dr. Richard F. Baker photographs the tissue through an electron microscope. An enlarged photomicrograph shows, for the first time, the gene, the determining factor in heredity.” – Glenn McMurry. “Productions by the Department of Cinema, USC” in Journal of the University Film Producers Association, vol. 11, no. 2 (Winter 1959), p. 19-20. Pratt received an award at the 1951 Edinburgh Film Festival for the full 21-minute film.
