资源简介:
The Central Road Board (VA 2803) was established circa March 1853 with responsibility for the formation, construction, improvement, management and maintenance of proclaimed main roads and bridges and for the co-ordination of the works undertaken by the District Road Boards. The primary officers were the Secretary, Treasurer and an Inspector-General of Roads. The Central Road Board was abolished on 1 January 1858 and succeeded by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) which operated under the statutory control of the Board of Land and Works (VA 744).This series contains the summary details of tenders received for contracts for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. For each tender, the date when tendering opened or when the tender was received, the name of the tenderer and the nature of the tender, the rate and amount of the tender, whether it was accepted or rejected and any remarks are included. It became the practice to group tenders under a heading of the particular work contract which was being tendered for. In the remarks there was reference to the Road District involved, occasionally reasons for the rejection of a particular tender and action taken after the acceptance of a tender. Details of accepted tenders may be found in VPRS 1108 Contract Book and VPRS Contract Register.
