Grassland Plant Specie Sampling

Description and Methods: Data was collected, with the help of Arlene Tran, in a York University grassland abundant with different species of insects, plants, trees, and grass. Data was collected on a hot and sunny September afternoon, in areas exposed to both sun and shade. A target plant specie that was both visible and abundant in the grassland was selected as the specie to be examined. Transects were used in order to collect the data; the transect was randomly laid down in the grassland. When the target plant specie was observed along the transect tape, the distance on the transect tape it appeared at, the height of the plant, the number of leaves and flowers on the plant, and the rate of abundance of other species around that plant was observed and recorded. 50 plant individuals were observed. This data was collected in order to explore the different plant populations and communities within the grassland.
