ARC2 elicits a secondary metabolic response requiring afsR and afsS in Streptomyces coelicolor

In this work, we demonstrate that the addition of the small molecule elicitor ARC2 to Streptomyces coelicolor cultures results in global changes in gene expression including many secondary metabolic genes. A profile of the Streptomyces coelicolor transcriptome in the absence and presence of ARC2 was performed by RNA-seq. Total RNA was extracted after 10 hours of treatment with either the DMSO solvent control or the ARC2 small molecule elicitor. A V2 rapid run mode with paired-end 2x75 bp reads on the Illumina HiSeq platform was performed for RNA sequencing. Examination of Streptomyces coelicolor gene expression in the absence and presence of the chemical elicitor ARC2.
