Stage I Endometrioid Endometrial Carcinoma

FIGO Stage 1 EEC with complete surgical resection and staging were retrospectively identified in our institution's pathology database, as approved by our institutional review board (protocol 44615). Clinical characteristics, including patient age, BMI, race and ethnicity, and treatment course were determined from the electronic health record. Cases included tumors with subsequent biopsy proven recurrence within 5 years of excision. The site of first recurrence was recorded as either vaginal cuff, locoregional, or distant metastasis. Sites of locoregional recurrence included vagina (other than cuff), pelvis, rectum, peritoneum, urethra, pelvic lymph nodes, and iliac lymph nodes. The control group included Stage 1 tumors matched by FIGO grade in patients with no evidence of recurrent or progressive disease with a minimum of 3-years follow-up period from hysterectomy. The 40 case specimens were originally collected between 1998-2021 and the 61 control specimens were collected between 2002-2018.
