Hydrogen bonding network in a deep eutectic solvent for cryopreservation

Deep eutectic solvents are favored as non-toxic replacements for many solvent systems. As a replacement for the current solvent systems, for example dimethylsulfoxide, used for replacing water in the cryopreservation of tissue, the deep eutectic mixture of 3:1 glycerol:proline has already been shown to be an effective non-cytotoxic cryopreservant. In this study we explore the hydrogen bonding network of the ternary mixture of water/glycerol/proline with vibrational spectroscopy on the inelastic spectrometer TOSCA.
