The indicator measures the share of the working-age population (typically aged 15 and older) who are currently employed and classified as self-employed. This includes individuals working on their own account or with one or a few partners, and those operating unincorporated enterprises without formal employees. It captures both necessity- and opportunity-driven self-employment.
