Greenland is located in the northeast of North America, situated between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, with the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to its west. Its geographical coordinates range from 59°44′42″N to 83°39′46″N and 73°15′13″W to 11°20′11″W. As the largest island on Earth, Greenland administratively belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland and its surrounding islands total 27,388 in number, including islets and independent rocks with an area greater than 24 m². Apart from the main island of Greenland, the major surrounding islands include Disko Island, Arve-Prinsens Island, Ubekendt Ejland, Ile De France, and others. The main island of Greenland covers an area of 2,112,448.97 km², with a coastline length of 49,200.82 km. The total area of Greenland and its surrounding islands is 2,162,184.19 km², with a total coastline length of 92,990.05 km. From June 1888 to April 1889, Norwegian polar explorer and geographer Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen led a one-year expedition to cross Greenland, conduct geographical surveys and research on the lives of Eskimo residents. He was the world's first geographer to publish studies on the lives of Eskimo people and the trans-Greenland crossing. This dataset was compiled based on Google Earth satellite imagery and relevant maps of Greenland.
