Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), NHERI 2023: Monitoring Extreme Wind Conditions along the Coastline during Landfalling Hurricanes

During a hurricane, the instrumentation package will experience non-negligible deflection and vibration influencing the anemometers’ responses. The data collected in this project can be used to develop correction methods. The unique aspect of this project is the ability of a weather station to be deployed on the beach to collect wind speed information during landfalling hurricanes. The intended audience is for undergraduate students with an interest in this area and for others who are working on developing correction methods for anemometers in extreme wind conditions.
